Practical information about Spui Campus
Spui Campus, Leiden University’s fourth location in The Hague, will open on 2 February. Below is relevant information for anyone visiting, working or studying there.
Which organisations will use Spui Campus?
At over 20,000 m², the building offered opportunities for other partners, so although Leiden is the main tenant, we will share the building with Delft University of Technology, the Open University, the LUMC and the Universities of the Netherlands. Together, we will create a unique research and teaching hub right in the city centre.
Leiden University will have a presence on all floors of the building. The Open University will be on the third floor, Delft University of Technology on the fourth, the LUMC on the fifth and the Universities of the Netherlands on the fifth and sixth floors.
What facilities will the building offer?
There are study spaces and co-working spaces throughout the building. On the first floor are two lecture halls, the largest of which seats 365. The restaurant will be open to students and staff and will cater for around 225 people.
With two examination halls in the building, students in The Hague will no longer need to sit exams at external locations. Each of these halls (2C.02 and 2C.04) will seat around 180 people. Together with room 2B.58 , this will enable 500 students to sit exams at any one time. Leiden University will manage these spaces, but our partners will be able to use them too.
The sports centre will be on the ground floor, and the student common room will be on the sixth floor. There will also be outdoor spaces: terraces on the second and sixth floors views of the city.
Which departments and faculties will use the building?
Spui Campus will be an additional teaching location in The Hague, and nearly all our degree programmes will be taught here and at our other buildings in The Hague. The staff from Economics and Society (Law) and International Relations and Organisations (Social and Behavioural Sciences) will be based here. For events, the University Services Department’s venue management team will consider which location in The Hague is most suitable.
How will I be able to enter the building?
The building will have a gate access control system. The gates will close in the evening after 18:00 hours and on weekends, and will grant access to students and staff with a valid card and visitors with a QR code. This also applies to our partners in the building. Leiden University students and staff will use their LU-Cards, and visitors will use the registration system.
What will the opening hours be?
Here you can find the opening hours for Spui Campus.
With the longer opening hours at Spui Campus, the opening hours at the Wijnhaven building will change as of 2 January.
How will the bike parking facility work?
All students and staff will have access to the bike parking facility, which has room for 1,350 bikes.
The same rules will apply as at other Leiden University buildings:
- Bikes must be parked in the racks.
- Bikes may not be left there indefinitely.
- E-bike charging stations are not available because of fire safety.
Your LU-Card will give you access to the bike parking facility.
Will I be able to store personal belongings anywhere?
Yes, there will be lockers that work with a code, so that students, staff and visitors can use them.
How will I be able to find my way around?
The building is divided into wings: A, B and C. On the signage, you will see the floor number, the wing number and then the room number.
Will I be able to work there?
We will have 60 flexible workspaces across all our buildings in The Hague. All Leiden University staff will be able to use them.
