Will you lend a hand at the Day of Languages and Cultures?
In a few weeks’ time, our faculty’s expertise will take centre stage in a celebratory way during the Day of Languages and Cultures. On Saturday 26 September, we will open our doors to a wide audience of interested visitors, from Leiden residents, families and expats to students and alumni, to showcase everything our faculty has to offer.
The first edition of this event in 2025 was a great success. This year, we are aiming even higher and expect to welcome at least 500 visitors. To help ensure the day runs smoothly, we could use some extra support from colleagues across the faculty. Would you like to lend a hand during the Day of Languages and Cultures?
What you will be doing
The Communications & Marketing Department is organising the event in collaboration with all institutes, the University Library (UL), LeidenGlobal, the African Studies Centre Leiden (ASCL), KITLV and the Leiden University Language Centre (LAC).
The programme includes around 40 lectures, workshops, quizzes, exhibitions and other interactive sessions for visitors to choose from, as well as guided tours of the University Library’s special collections and the Languages Market. You can view the programme as it currently stands on this page.
We are looking for colleagues who would be willing to help out for a few hours during the event. You could support us as a room steward, ensuring that activities get off to a smooth start and directing visitors when a session has reached capacity. Once the session is underway, you are of course welcome to attend it yourself. Alternatively, you could help as a host, welcoming visitors at the entrance and helping them find their way around the event
Interested?
All volunteers will be treated to lunch from the Caribbean food truck that will be on site for the occasion. Ideally, we would like volunteers to be available for the full programme, from 11.30 to 16.15. You can sign up by emailing events@hum.leidenuniv.nl.
If you are unable to attend for the entire programme but would still be willing to help for a few hours, we would also be happy to have your support. We can discuss the available options with you and find an arrangement that works.
