D&I calendar for 2026-2027 launched
The D&I calendar for the 2026-2027 academic year is now available. It is a tool designed to raise awareness and understanding of important religious holidays, commemorative days and other celebrations relevant to the diverse groups and identities within our academic community. It can also help when planning meetings, events and other communications across the university.
Where can I find the calendar?
Download the iCalendar file to add the dates to your Outlook, Google or Apple calendar. The descriptions include additional information about each day, such as possible dietary requirements and work- or study-related restrictions.
In addition to the iCalendar file, you can download a poster version to print out or use as a screensaver. A limited number of A3 posters are also available. If you would like to receive one, please email diversiteit@leidenuniv.nl.
How the days were selected
The days were selected to strike a balance between the world’s major religions, different groups and identities within the academic community, and days that are specifically relevant in Leiden and the Netherlands. The calendar is not intended to provide a comprehensive list of every holiday, commemorative day or awareness day, but as a tool to raise awareness, encourage dialogue and support inclusive planning.
Dutch holidays and traditions are also briefly explained so that international students and staff can understand what is being celebrated or commemorated on these occasions. For national holidays and mandatory closure days, the calendar also indicates when Leiden University is closed. See the Academic Year Calendar for a complete overview of days off and closure days.
If you have any questions about the calendar or suggestions for changes, please email diversiteit@leidenuniv.nl.
Please note: the calendar does not give staff or students the right to request the cancellation of activities on religious holidays, with the exception of official public holidays in the Netherlands.
