Daily Dutch (Online, POPcorner FSW)

Are you a Social and Behavioural student or PhD candidate? Do you want to learn the basics of conversational and written Dutch, while getting acquainted with Dutch culture?

The next Daily Dutch course will be offered in October 2021

Course description

The Daily Dutch course is an intensive introduction to the Dutch language and culture. The aim of the course is to give our Social and Behavioural Sciences students and PhD candidates a basic understanding of Dutch and an opportunity to learn more about our culture. At the end of the course you will have a basic knowledge of Dutch and will be able to participate in simple conversations. The level on completion of the course will be A1.

Each week a new cultural theme will be introduced (in total 10 different themes). At each class you will be encouraged to practise the grammar, speech, pronunciation, and intonation of the Dutch language. The course provides lots of opportunities to practise speaking. Active participation is required of all students.

Course outline

The course consists of 12 classes of 2 hours each. There will be 1 exam. The total study load per week is about 5 hours: 2 hours for the class and 3 hours for individual study and preparation. The classes are mandatory. Students may miss a maximum of 2 classes, but will be required to complete an extra assignment to compensate.

The final exam is in week 13 (9 or 16 June 2021 depending on exams and holidays). After successfully finishing the course, the students will receive a certificate of completion.
