The Austria Centre Leiden, in partnership with the Austrian Embassy in The Hague, warmly invites you to an event featuring the prize-winning Austrian writer Robert Menasse and NRC critic Michel Krielaars in a talk about Menasse's new European Union novel “The Enlargement”.

In his second major European Union novel - the first was “The Capital” - well-known Austrian author Robert Menasse explores the fascinating story of Europe. “Europe has a beautiful, clever and fascinating story, a story that makes this continent the avant-garde of the world.” Menasse tells the story of the first post-national democracy.

In his novel “The Enlargement”, Robert Menasse reunites two friends who once fought against Polish communism. Now they find themselves at the heart of European politics. Through this compelling story, Menasse raises a critical question facing Europe today: how can people from different political backgrounds and cultural histories unite under a common banner?
