Leiden’s Rapenburg canal was transformed into a magical open-air stage for the jubilee edition of the Leiden Canal Concert, as hundreds gathered to celebrate 450 years of Leiden University. The concert featured an orchestra made up of students and staff performing alongside local artists.

It's time for the 2021 Image Award

Again we had an unusual year, but also this year graduations still continued. We are well aware of the fact that at the start of your PhD track you had never imagined a graduation ceremony in the current context. Nevertheless, our warmest congratulations to the graduates at LACDR in 2021:

Recently, the oldest parts of the Leiden University Archives have been preserved and digitised thanks to a grant from Metamorfoze. This makes an important source on the history of Leiden University – and academic life in the Northern Netherlands in a broader sense – widely available.

On Thursday the 9th of December the LACDR Fall Symposium 2021 took place. Although the plan was to organize this symposium physically, unfortunately this was not possible due to the corona measures and it became an online event.

Leiden University’s Annual Report 2021 has been published. In this report, which consists of a general section and a financial section (the financial statements), the University provides a record of its research, teaching, knowledge transfer, operational management and policies in that year.

For the second year in a row, we had to hold the spring symposium as an online event. But nevertheless, there were impressive presentations and interesting poster pitches.

On Friday 9 July 2021 the graduation of the two-year Advanced MSc International Relations and Diplomacy (MIRD) programme took place in the Academy Building in Leiden. The ceremony was opened by Professor Madeleine Hosli.

Each year, the Faculty awards two Meijers PhD positions to talented researchers. One position is open to participants from the Pre-PhD Programme (PPP) and one position is open to other candidates from inside and outside Leiden University.
