Hi! My name is Francesca Scotti, and I am a second-year research master’s student. I am applying for the position in the education committee to be a communicator between the needs of the student body and the coordinators of the programme.

I have previously completed my archaeology bachelor’s degree and am now doing my research master’s at Leiden University. This means that I have a good understanding of what both levels of the course offer and what they could, potentially, do better.

I am interested in becoming an active participant in the quality of education that we receive. One way to do this would be by better communicating the students’ ideas and insights. Too often students discuss the same frustrations among themselves without those concerns ever reaching the people who can act on them. As a teaching assistant, I am in regular contact with students in the earlier years, and I would use that position to gather their experiences and bring them to the coordinators in a constructive form.

Hello there! My name is Philipp Conrad, I’m a second-year Research Master student from Germany and hereby put myself forward as candidate for the Education Committee.

As I am currently in my fifth year at the faculty of archaeology, having completed my Bachelor’s here as well, I can rightly say that I have come to know our faculty very well.

Throughout these years, I have experienced all the good, the bad and the ugly of our curriculum. Archaeological education is very close to my heart, having been a teaching assistant, and knowing how much joy a great course can bring me. For this reason, I cannot help but express my conviction that our curriculum needs improvement in terms of it’s depth.

As member of the education committee, I will commit myself to ensuring a renewed and more in-depth curriculum. Thanks to my extensive experience as a student and understanding of the internal workings through my role as TA, I am convinced to be in a great position to review and improve our curriculum.
Although not everything has always been perfect, the faculty of archaeology has given me a great deal, and now I would like to give something back.

Hello! My name is Wiebe Oudesluijs. I’m following the Master applied archaeology here at Leiden University. I previously have done my bachelor at Saxion University of Applied Sciences and have 2 years of archaeological field experience. This year I would love to be on the education committee!

Master students from last year might know me as their mentor. And this year again I’m mentoring the master Applied, Global and Heritage! I also was a TA at the fieldschool in Oss 2 years in a row. This experience and background gave me a broad network within this faculty and a perspective on the curriculum that is being offered.

The reason I became a mentor and did Teaching at Oss is because I’m interested in education and since I have the ability to use my network as a mentor I can create a confidential environment where I can still voice your ideas for opportunities and improvements.
