Digitalisation & Social Change

Digital technologies continue to create new ways of interaction, engagement and control, transforming the ways in which people interact with, relate to and depend on each other. How have digital interfaces become integral to societies worldwide? How have digital technologies strengthened and/or challenged existing inequalities, and how do these frame, challenge and exceed given cultural and linguistic realms?

Cities today are increasingly shaped by data, digital infrastructures, and algorithmic systems. Sensors, algorithms, platforms, and surveillance technologies influence how urban life is organized, governed, and experienced. Yet these systems do not produce equal outcomes for everyone; they often generate and reinforce inequalities. At the same time, many of these digital interventions remain invisible and largely uncontested in everyday urban life.
