Course and exam enrolment

If you want to take a certain subject and / or examination (including re-sits), you have to register via uSis in a classnumber.  Mostly these classnumbers refers to an EXAMINATION, but you are kindly asked to enroll as soon as you plan to follow a course. Then the coordinator can use the list of enrolled students as an indication of the number of students that can be expected in the group. Find the numbers you need by choosing your Bsc of Msc programme in the menu below or by the TAB that indicates the study programme. To change the study programme, fill in your choice on the upper right hand side of the screen.

Click here to open a guide to enrolling with a classnumber.

Course and exam enrolment

Enrolment and/or cancellation of enrolment for all exams, resits and practicals is mandatory. This also applies to the Bachelor Research Project (see below for more information). Enrolment for any study activity should be completed before the specified closure date. Find out below how to enrol for study activities and how to cancel your enrolment, if necessary.

You have to enrol for all exams, resits, practicals and research projects before the closure date of that particular study activity. The default closure date is 10 calendar days before the exam date, but there are exceptions. The deadline for enrolment and cancellation of enrolment is up until 23.59 hrs on the closure date of the exam. Please find an overview of all closure dates in the Examination schedules.

Follow the steps below to sign up for courses and exams:

  1. Login at uSis with your Brightspace account.
  2. Click on 'Main Menu' and go to 'Self Service'.
  3. Click on 'Student Center'.
  4. Click on 'Enrol' and then choose 'Enrol by entering the class number'.
  5. Enter the class number of the study activity as listed in the 'uSis studieactiviteit' column of the Examination Schedule. Click on ‘Continue’.
  6. Select the class the appears in the bottom and click on ‘To shopping cart’.
  7. The course can now be found under ‘Shopping cart’. Go to this page and select the course. Click on ‘Enrol’.
  8. After succesful enrolment you will receive a confirmation email. Please note! Only if and when the class appears under 'My Class Schedule' in uSis, your enrolment is valid and final.

The Bachelor Research Project also requires enrolment through uSis. Make sure to enrol for the correct study activity. For the academic year 2018-2019 the codes in the table below apply. Study activity codes for previous years can be found in the respective examination schedules.

To cancel your enrolment for a course or exam, follow the same procedure in uSis as described above for enrolment. Of course you need to select 'Cancel enrolment' instead of 'Enrolment'. Please note! Only if and when the class disappears under 'My Class Schedule' in uSis, your cancellation is valid and final.

Timely enrolment for study activities is your own responsibility. Failing to enrol or to cancel your enrolment in time will have consequences. If you do not enrol before the closure date, your grade will not be registered. Failing to cancel your enrolment, your chance for the exam will be considered as used. Please note that resits always require separate enrolment.

According to article 4.6.4. of the Rules and Regulations of the Examination Committee, deviations from the procedures for enrolment as described on this page can be imposed or allowed. More information on this can be found in the Examination Protocol Physics & Astronomy (in Dutch). When submitting a written and motivated request to the Board of Examiners, use one of the following online forms:

Astronomy: online request form Astronomy Board of Examiners
Physics: online request form Physics Board of Examiners

Students following a double bachelor's programme should submit the request at the Board of Examiners of their programme of first registration.

If you cannot enrol or cancel your enrolment via uSis, you can alternatively enrol by sending an email to usis-fwn@science.leidenuniv.nl before the closure date or go to the Science Student Administration in person before the closure date (Gorlaeus Lecture Hall, B1.17).

If you encounter technical difficulties in enrolling or cancellation of your enrolment in uSis, send an email to usis-fwn@science.leidenuniv.nl. Make sure to always include your student number, study, the course you want to enrol in and a description of the problem. Also indicate that you refer to information on the uSis website.
