Recognition of academic credits
If you have to go abroad as part of your study programme, or if you choose to do optional electives abroad, you must always make sure that the credits you earn count towards your study programme in Leiden.
There are three ways in which you can have the credits you earn abroad included on your transcript.
- The courses must be recognised as optional electives within your study programme – if these are permitted;
- or the courses must replace other courses from your Leiden University curriculum;
- or the courses are considered to be extra-curricular and are mentioned as such on your transcript.
Your study programme’s Board of Examiners is responsible for all decisions concerning the recognition of academic credits on their programme at Leiden University. Before departure you should discuss your study plan with your study adviser and request approval of the courses you will follow abroad. Ask your international exchange coordinator for more information.
