Voting

You can cast your vote in university elections via uAccess using your student account.

Voting in university elections takes place via uAccess. You can log in using your ULCN username and password. Votes are cast through a secure SURFconext portal. When logging into SURFconext for the first time you will be asked if you want to share your login details. It is safe to agree to this.

Once you have logged in you will be able to see the elections in which you are entitled to vote on the left side of the screen.

Individual candidate system and list system

Two systems are used in university elections: the individual candidate system and the list system.

During elections for the faculty councils of Archaeology and Governance & Global Affairs, and the LUMC student council, the individual candidate system is used. During elections for the University Council and the faculty councils of Humanities, Law, Social Sciences and Science the list system is used.

Individual candidate system

The faculty councils of Archaeology, Governance & Global Affairs and the LUMC student council use the individual candidate system. This means that once you click on the election in question you will immediately see the individual candidates for each party. This system allows multiple voting, which means you can select as many candidates as there are available seats.

You should allocate a number to each of your selected candidates, with 1 being your first choice, 2 being your second choice and so on. You may select as many candidates as there are seats but you may also select fewer candidates and, for example, only indicate your first choice.

To cast your vote click on ‘Vote’. You can also cast a blank vote by clicking on ‘Nil’. Confirm your choice by again clicking on ‘Vote’ or ‘Nil’.

Once you receive confirmation of your vote you can click on ‘Next’ to vote in another election, or select ‘to log-off’. As you are using the SURFconext portal you must also log out of uAccess or close your browser completely.

List system

The University Council and the faculty councils of Humanities, Law, Social Sciences and Science use the list system. This means that once you click on the election in question you will see the parties taking part in the election. Only once you click on a party will you see the candidates standing for that party. You can then click on your chosen candidate.

To cast your vote click on ‘Vote’. You can also cast a blank vote by clicking on ‘Nil’. Confirm your choice by again clicking on ‘Vote’ or ‘Nil’.

Once you receive confirmation of your vote you can click on ‘Next’ to vote in another election, or ‘to log-off’. As you are using the SURFconext portal you must also log out of uAccess or close your browser completely.

Electoral regulations

More information about the voting system and the nomination of candidates can be found in the kiesreglement van de Universiteitsraad (University Council electoral regulations). For faculty councils different kiesreglement (electoral regulations) apply. These regulations are in Dutch.
